The Division Method
To convert any fraction a/b to a decimal, divide a (numerator) by b (denominator):
3/4 → 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75
1/3 → 1 ÷ 3 = 0.3333… (repeating)
1/3 → 1 ÷ 3 = 0.3333… (repeating)
Repeating decimals are written with a bar over the repeating digits: 1/3 = 0.3̄
Fraction to Percent
Multiply the decimal by 100 to get the percentage:
3/4 = 0.75 = 75%
1/8 = 0.125 = 12.5%
1/8 = 0.125 = 12.5%

Decimal to Fraction
To convert a decimal back to a fraction:
- Write the decimal over 1: 0.75/1
- Multiply top and bottom by 10 for each decimal place: 75/100
- Simplify by dividing by the GCF: 75/100 = 3/4
Mixed Numbers
A mixed number like 2½ converts by treating the whole number separately: 2½ = 2 + 0.5 = 2.5
For improper fractions like 7/4: 7 ÷ 4 = 1.75 (or 1¾ as a mixed number).
